We are not that square...we just dance in one.
And, sometimes we dance in the round.
Here's how you can, too!

SOCIAL SQUARE DANCE LESSONS - TBA
MAINSTREAM square dance lessons
Tri Squares Square Dance Club, typically, holds the first phase of mainstream square dance lessons, Basic Mainstream (B-51), moves 1 to 51, in the fall of each year on Sunday afternoons. B-51 lessons last 10-weeks. We offer new square dance students* the first two scheduled Sunday afternoon classes free of charge, meaning you can begin lessons in the first or second week of open enrollment. After that, the remaining 8-weeks of lessons are closed to "new students" as the instructor will begin teaching additional moves that require students to know the basics that are covered in the first two weeks. (Late start exceptions can be made for dancers with previous square dance experience who want to resume dancing by taking a refresher class.) The instructor reviews the prior week's lesson (steps) before introducing new moves to the students.

The second phase of square dance lessons, Mainstream, moves 52 to 68, are held starting in January and last for 8 weeks. No free lessons are offered in the second phase. The instructor teaches the remaining square dance moves while also working in the moves students learned in the first phase of lessons (B-51) to build on the students' knowledge. Students will be introduced to more singing calls done to a variety of music as the lessons progress. Once the students graduate (complete) lessons, they will have the knowledge to attend regular square dances. Click HERE for information on our next Mainstream lessons.
Knowing all 68 Mainstream square dance moves will enable the newly graduated dancer to dance at the Mainstream level at any square dance club locally, nationally, or even anywhere in the world. Believe it or not, all Mainstream square dance moves are called in English no matter where on earth you are dancing.

Round Dance Lessons
Round dance lessons are usually offered the same afternoons about an hour and a half before square dance lessons and segments last 10-weeks. No free lessons are offered for Round Dance. Since the moves in Round Dancing are different than in square dancing, you do not need to know how to square dance in order to round dance.
Round dancing is performed to a variety of music and to familiar rhythms such as the 2-Step, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Rumba, and many more. Also, many of the rhythms previously mentioned share moves. This makes it simpler and quicker for the student dancer to learn (pick up) another rhythm or style of dance.
