Tri Squares Square Dance Club
History in Brief
History in Brief
Three clubs - The Tigard 59ers, The Merry C-Saws, and The Robin Hoods - joined together in September 1998 to form one new club: The Tri Squares Square Dance Club.
The Tigard 59ers started in 1959 from a class held by the Suburban 8's. The Suburban 8's was a large club at the time, and the class was so large that some of the class members branched out and formed a new club, the Tigard 59rs.
The Merry C-Saws Square Dance Club started in 1960. The first dance was held April 16, 1960 at the Leedy Grange on Saltzman Road in Cedar Mill. From there the club moved to the Skyline Grange for a couple of years and then finally to the Tigard Grange where they remained until joining with two other clubs to form the Tri Squares Square Dance Club.
The Robin Hoods began dancing in Sherwood as the Sherwood Square Dance Club in 1964. The club first danced at the Odd Fellows Hall and later moved on to dance at the St. Francis Parish Hall. They eventually changed their name to Robin Hoods in 1971 and moved to the Tigard Grange to dance for a period of time. The Robin Hoods also danced at the Winnona Grange in Tualatin the last few years before becoming a traveling club. In 1998 they put down roots and joined with the 59rs and C-Saws to become the Tri Squares Square Dance Club.
The newly formed Tri Squares Square Dance Club started out using guest (revolving) callers on the first Saturday of the month and used a regularly scheduled caller on the third Friday of the month.
Tri Squares Today:
Tri Squares Square Dance Club dances on the second and fourth Friday of each month (with few exceptions). Tri Squares dances to a permanent caller for Mainstream dancing and a permanent cuer for Round dancing with intermittent guest callers and cuers as needed. Starting September, 2022, all Club dances will be held at the Kinton Grange hall on Scholls Ferry Road in Beaverton, Oregon. There is plenty of parking available.
Tri Squares Square Dance Club offers lessons to new students in Mainstream square dance steps (1 through 68) each year mainly in the fall and winter months. Round dance or Plus dance lessons are often offered separately in the hour before Mainstream lessons. Round dancing gives dancers, like you, the opportunity to dance the 2-Step, Cha Cha, Rumba or Waltz as a couple or even as a single. (You do not have to know Mainstream square dancing moves in order to Round dance.) Plus dance lessons are for the "seasoned" Mainstream dancers who are wanting to learn moves beyond the Mainstream level.
