SQUARE DANCING LESSONS
Square dancing is divided into levels
Basic Program - This is 51 moves that usually takes 20-25 hours to learn.
Mainstream - This adds an additional 18 moves to the Basic Program for a total of 69 moves that make up Mainstream. Because of this, most clubs, including Tri Squares, dance at the Mainstream level.
Plus - Plus level adds 31 more complex moves. Many dancers add Plus lessons after they have danced for a year or more at the Mainstream level. This is the highest level most dancers in Oregon advance to.
Advanced & Challenge - These higher levels include hundreds of additional calls and concepts. Only a small percentage of dancers in Oregon move on to study them
Tri Squares offers square dance lessons beginning each September on Sunday afternoons. The first 10 weeks cover the 51 moves in the Basic Program. New students are welcome to attend the first two lessons free of charge. The remaining eight weeks cost $56 and include professional instruction, support from experienced dancer helpers (“angels”), snacks, and plenty of fun!
The second phase—Mainstream (moves 52–69)—begins in January. All students who successfully complete the Basic Program are invited to continue into the Mainstream class. This ten-week session costs $70.
After completing all 20 weeks of lessons, students officially graduate and are invited to join Tri Squares. Graduates can also visit dozens of clubs that dance the Mainstream program throughout Oregon, across the United States, and even internationally. The Mainstream moves are the same everywhere, and square dancing is always called in English no matter where you go!
Tri Squares also offers lessons in Round Dancing starting in September.

Round DANCING LESSONS
Round Dancing is taught by type
Round dance lessons are taught by focusing on one type of dance at a time, such as cha-cha, waltz, or two-step. This allows dancers to learn the basic rhythm, timing, and characteristic movements of each dance before combining them into full routines. In class, the cuer will teach the basic steps and experienced dancers will be there to help.
Tri Squares offers Round Dancing lessons beginning each September on Sunday afternoons. Each 10-week session focuses on a single style of Round Dance. The style selected for the season will be announced here in August. During the course, students will learn all of the figures and movements for the chosen Round Dance. The cost for the full 10-week session is $70.
Round Dancing is featured at all Tri Squares dances, offered between each Square Dance tip. Many other Square Dance clubs throughout Oregon also include Round Dancing.
Students are welcome to take both Round Dancing and Square Dancing lessons at the same time. Both classes are offered on Sundays, with Round Dancing lessons held first, followed by Square Dancing lessons.
